Instructor: Lisa Jacobs

Students: Various

Objectives:

  1. Students will gain knowledge of the EU through current events and map skills.
  2. Students will review and increase their ability to use maps.

Materials:

  1. A large world map
  2. Push-pins or small stickers
  3. Magazines and newspapers

Procedures:

  1. Using the map, familiarize students with countries that belong to the EU.
  2. Have students work in groups or individually to find current events about the EU in the available magazine and newspapers.
  3. Have students share the information found with the rest of the class.
  4. Facilitate discussions with the students so that they have a greater understanding of what’s going on.
  5. Before the students share, have a member of each group locate the country that their article is about on the map. Use push-pins or stickers to pin-point the location of their country. This will serve as a visual for other students.

Note: This can be an on-going activity. Anytime students find information about the EU, have them share the new information and recall the location of the country or countries involved.
