Objectives:

  1. Students will discuss the ways in which women influenced religion in ancient Rome.
  2. Students will learn about the various gods and goddesses of the Romans and women in religion
  3. Students will learn the differences of legal rights between vestal virgins and everyday women in Rome.

Materials:

  1. Overhead projector
  2. Materials such as pens and pencils to take notes
  3. Computers with reliable Internet access
  4. Websites:

Procedure:

  1. Students will research and take notes on Roman gods and goddesses using the above website and other websites accessed via the Internet.
  2. As a class, students will discuss the significance of these religious figures.
  3. As a class, students will also discuss women’s issues in modern religions such as the Muslim way of dressing, prayer in schools, female clergy, etc. The outcome was good. Students were intuitive and had a lively discussion.
